Dr. McKinney talks about the recently released volume Valuing OER in the Tenure, Promotion, and Reappointment Process and the major themes that emerged throughout the collected case studies. As the editor of the book, Dr. McKinney discussed how the book came to be, why incentivizing OER work via job security and promotion matters, and some best practices for both faculty and administrators as they try to make OER legible to those who don’t work in the field.

Dr. Maha Bali leads participants in an exploration of diverse understandings of open education, with a focus on fostering social justice. Participants had opportunities to reflect on their own practices and question the presumption that openness necessarily promotes social justice. Dr. Bali discussed ways to assess existing practices for their impact on diverse communities, and how we might modify our approaches in order to better promote social justice in open education.
